Finding the JOY in Perimenopause

Anyone else tired of the narrative that perimenopause is a downhill journey? I certainly am. But if I'm honest, the thoughts in my head that I speak to myself; are often guilty of creating this narrative. I'm tired, I'm hot, I'm anxious, I'm old...the list goes on. BUT...I'm also raising amazing teenagers, helping women feel their best in the Pilates studio, and coaching women to thrive in this phase of life. So maybe this is actually the BEST chapter of my life! Are you ready to switch the narrative and find JOY now and in the years to come?


First and foremost, let's debunk the myth that perimenopause is a downhill journey. Instead, consider it a unique and empowering phase where you can redefine yourself. It's time to shift your mindset from viewing perimenopause as a challenge to embracing it as an opportunity for personal growth.


I'm not saying there aren't challenges. There most certainly are and feeling frustrated from time to time is totally normal. But what if I told you that if you actually LISTENED to your body and adapted your lifestyle to accomodate this new version of yourself that you might actually enjoy this chapter. You might even SHINE!


You MUST embrace self care. It is not a luxury. It is a necessity. Exhausted? Take a nap. Shoulder hurting? Book a massage. Joint pain? Take a collagen/HA supplement. Whether it's a quiet moment with a cup of tea, a brisk walk in the fresh air, or a weekend getaway – prioritize activities that replenish your mind, body, and soul. Embrace the Pillars of Wellness and your body will thank you.


Perimenopause and beyond is "the wisdom chapter." You've lived a lot of great years and learned many lessons. You're resilient. And if you're anything like me this chapter brings a clarity as to what is and is not important in life. Focus on this newfound wisdom. Think of it as a metamorphosis – shedding old habits and emerging as a stronger, wiser version of yourself. Embrace the changes with open arms, knowing that each phase of life brings its own set of beautiful transformations.


Most importantly, slow down if you want to feel the joy. It's there but many of us miss it because we're too busy. Life flies by so practicing mindfulness is absolutely necessary. In the midst of the chaos, practice being present in the moment. Whether it's a family dinner, a work project, or a chat with your parents, be fully engaged. By cultivating mindfulness, you'll not only savour life's precious moments but also reduce stress and enhance your overall well-being. You'll feel the joy.


And find your tribe. Do NOT go through this chapter alone. Share your experiences with other women navigating this transition. Trust me...they don't have it all figured out either (even if their IG reel tells you they do) and they will embrace the opportunity for some connection. Knowing that you're not alone on this journey can be incredibly empowering and comforting.


Perimenopause doesn't have to be a battleground. It's an opportunity for a mindset makeover, a chance to take back control and steer your life in a direction that brings you joy and fulfillment. Embrace self-care, reframe challenges as opportunities, practice mindfulness, and build a community of support. Together, we'll navigate this phase with grace and emerge stronger and more empowered than ever before.
