Perimenopause. I don't think I even knew what that word meant until about 5 years ago. It certainly wasn't talked about when I was growing up. And we NEED to talk about it! This chapter is not for the faint of heart. With the challenges of Perimenopause intersecting with raising children, aging parents, and pursuing careers the idea of prioritizing our self care can seem like a daunting task.
So how do navigate the juggling act of Perimenopause and still look after ourselves?
Here's 6 tips to embrace this chapter of life.
Acknowledge Your Unique Journey
Although every women over 45 is in this chapter every woman is having a different experience. This is the time to slow down and listen to what your body is telling you. Maybe your best friend gets relief from 45 minute runs but maybe you need 45 minute naps. That's ok. Embrace your individual needs and practice compassion towards yourself and others.
Prioritize Self-Care Without Guilt
Would you agree this is easier said than done? But I promise you that if you listen to your body and look after your own needs you will have more energy to do all the tasks on your to do list. Self-care is not a luxury; it's a necessity! Whether it's a quiet moment with a book, a brisk walk, or a relaxing bath; moments just for you NEED to part of your routine.
Establish Realistic Priorities
There's a lot of balls to keep in the air. Identify your priorities and focus your energy on those aspects of your life. It's okay to reassess and reprioritize as circumstances evolve, allowing you to create a more manageable and fulfilling daily routine. And it's ok if you drop some balls. Just pause, pick them up again, and continue on.
Embrace Time Management Techniques
You DO have enough time! If you know your priorities it will be much easier to schedule your tasks. Effective time management is crucial for balancing productivity and self-care. My secret weapon is time blocking in google calendar. And breaking down larger tasks into manageable chunks over a series of days can help you focus more during those time blocks. Routine can provide a sense of structure, making it easier to navigate the demands of your busy life.
Delegate and Seek Support
You don't have to do it all alone. In fact; you shouldn't. You NEED a village. Talk to other women going through this chapter of life and seek professional support when necessary. Hello Fresh can make meal planning and prep easier, a housekeeper can take the stress off the domestic duties, and a therapist can help you work through personal issues that arise.
Celebrate Small Wins
You are doing a great job! It's easy to focus on what we don't do or where we need to improve but what is working. Take a moment to celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. This simple strategy can boost your confidence and motivation. Small wins contribute to a positive mindset, helping you stay resilient in the face of challenges.
