Plunging into mountain lakes, filling bathtubs with buckets of ice, and taking cold showers are all the rage right now. Cold water therapy is taking the world by storm. And peri-menopausal women should take note as it has been proven to help with many of the unpleasant symptoms of this stage of life.

But if you're not quite ready to take the cold water plunge that's ok. Take your workout outside instead. A brisk walk, an hour of nordic skiing, or just shovelling the snow can boost your mood and improve your health.

Here's 4 reasons to take your workout outside this winter:

Mood Enhancement and Stress Reduction:

Noticed your mood being a little unstable? Head outside! Exercising outdoors, especially in natural settings, has been shown to boost mood and reduce stress. The combination of physical activity and exposure to nature can contribute to the release of endorphins, promoting a positive mindset and helping to alleviate symptoms such as anxiety and irritability.

Vitamin D Absorption:

Spending time outdoors exposes the body to natural sunlight, ramping up the production of vitamin D. Vitamin D is crucial for maintaining bone health, boosting immune system function, and regulating mood. Even if you do get outside, if you live in Canada, you could benefit from a supplement. This is what I use... Vitamin D.

Improved Sleep Quality:

Craving a good nights sleep? Go outside. Exposure to natural light helps regulate the circadian rhythm, promoting a healthier sleep-wake cycle. Additionally, the physical exertion of outdoor activities can contribute to better overall sleep patterns.

Hormonal Balance and Regulation:

Regular physical activity, especially outdoor exercise, has been linked to improved hormonal balance. Exercise can help regulate hormones such as cortisol and insulin, contributing to overall hormonal stability during perimenopause.

It's often the simplest habits that give us the most benefits. Get outside. Your mind, body, and soul will thank you for it.
