As you age, your skin undergoes various changes, and it becomes increasingly important to take care of it. Embracing your glow isn't just about vanity; it's about nurturing your skin's health and radiance. Let's talk about why skincare matters and how you can have the best skin of your life in your 40's and beyond! Are you ready for your #glowup era!
It seems like only yesterday I was buying discounted skin care at the grocery store without a care in the world. That memory makes me cringe a little! But as my skin started to change in my 40's I realized it was time to take things more seriously. So what does happen to your skin as it ages?
Reduced Collagen Production: As you age, your skin's collagen production decreases, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Adding a collagen/hyaluronic acid supplement to your daily routine will replace lost collagen and help your body synthesize more. But do your research! Most powdered collagens are only 30% bioavailable meaning you pee out 70% of the product! I use Liquid Biocell, which has a 98% bioavailability rate! It is well worth the investment.
Increased Dryness: Aging skin tends to become drier due to decreased oil production. This can result in flakiness, rough texture, and dullness. Moisturize your skin daily, drink plenty of water, and exfoliate regularly. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is your bodies internal moisture system! It co-exists in the body alongside collagen so taking them together in a supplement will have visible results. Liquid Biocell has been clinically proven to increase HA levels in the body by 6000% in just 28 days!
Sun Damage Accumulation: Over the years, sun exposure can take a toll on your skin, causing hyperpigmentation, age spots, and uneven skin tone. Effective sun protection can help prevent further damage and even reverse some of the existing signs of sun damage. Wide brimmed hats, sunscreen, and long sleeved shirts will offer your skin protection.
Slower Cell Turnover: As you age, the skin's cell turnover rate slows down. This leads to a buildup of dead skin cells that can exaggerate wrinkles, give you an uneven skin tone, and a dull complexion. Bakuchiol is a plant-derived retinol alternative that delivers retinol-comparative results without harsh drying or peeling. It targets the buildup of dead skin cells promoting cell renewal and revealing fresher, brighter skin.
Here's my top tips to get glowing skin over 40!
Invest in Quality Products: No more buying skincare at the grocery store! Look for skincare products specifically formulated for mature skin, with ingredients like bakuchiol, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C. These can help address specific aging concerns and promote a more youthful complexion. My favourite system is the Youth Anti Aging Regimen.
Prioritize Moisture: Hydration is key to maintaining a youthful glow. Incorporate a rich moisturizer into your daily routine, and consider adding a hydrating serum or facial oil for an extra boost of moisture.
Don't Skip Sun Protection: Make SPF a non-negotiable part of your daily routine to shield your skin from harmful UV rays and prevent premature aging.
Regular Exfoliation: Incorporate gentle exfoliation into your skincare routine to slough off dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. Your entire body will benefit from exfoliation. Check out my blog post on Dry Brushing here.
Practice Self-Care: Lastly, remember to take care of yourself inside and out. Get enough sleep, manage stress levels, stay hydrated, and nourish your body with a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and nutrients. Your skin will thank you for it.
Here's to glowing skin, radiant confidence, and the beauty of growing older, one skincare step at a time. Cheers to you! 🌟Embrace Your Glow
